Biohazard Waste Disposal in West Palm Beach, FL

Start with the service address, not a ZIP code. Palm Beach County and the City of West Palm Beach follow different boundaries and pickup arrangements. This guide separates home sharps, household hazardous waste, routine residential collection, and facility biomedical waste so you can check the right public source before traveling or arranging service.

Biohazard Cleanup Connect is an independent information and referral guide. It does not perform cleanup, pickup, transport, treatment, testing, clearance, or disposal work. The public contacts below provide program or regulatory information, not commercial pickup.

    Step one · exact property

Confirm the parcel before choosing a City or County route.

A West Palm Beach mailing address or ZIP code does not settle City limits, County jurisdiction, or who handles ordinary pickup. Use the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser address search and parcel information first. If the parcel record leaves the boundary unclear, contact the responsible office before relying on a schedule.

    Parcel check

Read the PCN with the address.

Palm Beach County says a PCN beginning with 00 identifies unincorporated County property; other prefixes indicate a municipality. A parcel number is a starting point, not a substitute for confirming an unclear boundary with the County.

If the boundary is unclear, the County Zoning FAQ directs property questions to the Property Appraiser at 561-355-2881.

    Routine collection

Use the schedule for a confirmed City address.

West Palm Beach's pickup schedule is address-based and applies to addresses confirmed inside the City. Palm Beach County describes franchised haulers in unincorporated areas, while other municipalities arrange their own garbage service. Confirm a current schedule by the exact address.

County and municipal arrangements are different.

    The source and setting matter

Choose the route that matches the waste.

Household sharps, household chemicals, ordinary residential trash, and facility biomedical waste use different public guidance. An HHW site or regular cart is not a route for sharps or facility-generated biomedical waste.

    For personal use at home

Home sharps belong in the DOH household route.

Palm Beach DOH's brochure describes a home-sharps program for household or personal use. Businesses and health professionals are not eligible for that resident route. Facility-generated sharps need facility-specific guidance.

SWA says its trash, recycling, and Home Chemical & Recycling Center routes do not accept sharps or biomedical waste. Do not put sharps into those streams.

Routine collection depends on the confirmed address.

Use the West Palm Beach schedule only for an address confirmed inside City limits. County guidance describes franchised haulers for unincorporated Palm Beach County and separate arrangements in municipalities. A ZIP code or mailing city does not select the right schedule.

Medical waste and household HHW do not belong in a regular City cart.

West Palm Beach says it does not collect household hazardous waste and tells residents not to place it in the brown garbage cart. The City's A–Z guide says medical waste should not go in regular garbage and points resident needle and syringe questions to the Health Department. That guide is not a pickup arrangement or a direct provider referral.

For practices, labs, and other generators

Facility biomedical waste needs facility-specific guidance.

Contact the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County about the actual facility, material, and activity. DOH provides program and regulatory guidance. It is not a commercial pickup service or public drop-off for facility waste.

Do not route facility-generated biomedical waste through home-sharps programs, household hazardous-waste centers, routine trash, or a public drop-off unless the responsible program confirms that exact material and activity. Florida DOH's biomedical-waste program covers generator, transporter, storage, and treatment questions other than incineration; Florida DEP has primary responsibility for incineration and final disposal.
